Thomas Family August 2017 Newsletter

Family News Prayer

Dear Friends,

I’d like to apologise for a long gap between newsletters. Between the 22nd July and 15th August we were living as Nomads as we drove across Europe to Kent, London, Devon, Perth, back to London and Kent then home again. Moving accommodation about 15 times, staying between 1 night and 12 nights in any one place. Visiting many friends, catching up with family, talking to supporters and supporting churches. Attending a Wedding and sadly a funeral.

So with all that writing a newsletter never quite got fitted in.

May 25th after a long illness, and gradual decline, Adam’s father sadly died. We were blessed that, by leaving a bit earlier for sabbatical than originally planned, we were all able to attend his funeral in London.

Praise God for Patrick’s life and that we were able to attend the funeral.

The journey across Europe was eventful, as our car decided to break down. At points we had limited power and were going up hills on Motorways at 30 miles an hour (scary) then the clutch started to die. Anyway we made it all the way to the UK thanks to God, some Algerian mechanics in France, Adam’s Mr. Fix It skills, and the loan of Chris Davey’s tools we made it to the UK all the way round and back to Bosnia Herzegovina.

Highlights of the Trip:

Adam- Going to Scotland where we were treated to a very relaxing holiday. I particularly enjoyed going down the flumes at the water park. I also enjoyed and catching up with old friends.

Rachel- Spending lots of time with friends and family, particularly with cousins and their families who I rarely get to see.

Micah- All the swimming we did.

Talitha- Spending time with family in Devon, particularly extended family of similar ages.

Ezekiel- Going on the High Ropes at the Holiday Park in Devon. Also watching Airbus A380’s and other planes at Gatwick and Heathrow.

Hadassah- Spending a special weekend with Aunty Heidi, Uncle Matthew and their dogs Lottie and Safia.

Izak- Walking on water (!) and other activities in Devon.

Praise God for all that we were able to do during this time. All those we were able to see and spend time with. All those who generously fed us, housed us and generally made us feel so welcome.

So now we are settled back into life here in BiH. The children are back at school and Nursery. Micah has started at his new high school and we are gradually sorting out how our routine for this year will be with school and activities. Our sabbatical officially ends on 9th September so Adam will go back to work then. In the meantime we have been sorting things on the house, and enjoying being back with our friends both in the neighbourhood and at church.

This year Rachel is taking on the organising of Sunday school, rotas, material etc.. with some help from her friend Linda. We, with the 3 youngest children, also spent one evening at the church field clearing monster weeds from around cabbages. The little ones were picking up the weeds we had pulled out and taking them to the compost heap. Towards the end Izak asked ‘Are we going to be here allll night?’ And laid down on the grass to rest!

Praise God for a great church family in BiH, and for continued ways to serve.

In October a Team of 4 are visiting from our church in Greenford. The plan is that they will be doing English classes in local schools and getting alongside Adam and colleagues in their English conversation classes. As well as getting involved with things at church. Adam is busy already planning this all for them.

Please pray for all the planning and organising involved and that the Team would have a blessed and stretching time whilst here, that they would return encouraged and challenged in their faith.

So life is getting into a more normal routine. We are very thankful for our time during the summer but it is good to be home again now.

We would particularly value your prayers for our finances. With the extra cost of being in the UK, car repairs and now the cost of school books etc… alongside the worst £ to KM exchange rate we have seen since we have been here, things are tight. As well as your prayers if you are able to help towards these costs we would be very grateful.

Praise God that he always supplies all that we need.

Love and God Bless

Adam, Rachel, Micah, Talitha, Ezekiel, Hadassah and Izak.
